This evaluation is meant to determine if the child meets diagnostic criteria for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger’s, nonverbal learning disability or pervasive developmental disorder. An ASD evaluation may be needed if any of the following conditions exist:

• Poor social skills with peers; reports having no friends
• Delay in the development of language; unusual language patterns
• Repetitive or self stimulatory behaviors
• Seems to prefer playing alone; retreats into his or her “own world”
• Difficulty starting or maintaining a conversation
• Develops unusual preoccupations, interests or obsessions
• Becomes disturbed at the slightest change in routine or rituals
